Ready to try winter camping in the Canadian Rockies? You know you've always wanted to!


The main goal of this program is to learn how to winter camp safely and have fun while doing it (yes, it’s possible to have fun while camping in the winter!). The night before heading out, your guide will cover the overall basics; everything from what to pack, how to stay WARM, backpacking food and cooking, clothing, overnight gear, and animal safety! The next day strap on your snowshoes and explore. This is a complete experience for those looking to try and learn something new!

Itinerary and Gear
Planned Itinerary

Day 1:
Today is for the pre-trip meeting only. Our meeting will take place in person at 7pm in Canmore or Nordegg AB. Location TBD. We will make sure everyone has everything they need, introduce the group, and distribute the group gear. Virtual attendance is also an option.

Day 2:We'll wake up full of energy and drive to the trailhead. Strapping on our snowshoes or microspikes we'll travel about 6km- 10kms into our campground for the night. We will make a fire for us to warm up next to!

Day 3:Amazing! You just spent the night in a tent...in the WINTER! Celebrate your success and warm your body with hot chocolate or a backcountry mocha! With the rising sun pack up your gear and hike back out.
Level of Difficulty
This trip is designed to help people explore the world of winter camping. No previous experience is necessary but a general fitness level is needed. You will need to carry your personal gear plus food and water for a winter adevnture.

Accommodations the night before getting on the trail

Kananaskis Country Conservation Pass or National Park Pass depending on where we hike
